The Waterloo Black Hawks scored a goal in each period and shut out the Lincoln Stars for the second consecutive night.
With the win, the Black Hawks advance to their first Clark Cup Finals appearance since 2014 and will face the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
Kaeden Hawkins opened the scoring late in the first period on the power play. The St. Thomas commit wired a one-timer from the right dot into the back of the net.
Hawkins moved into a tie with Muskegon’s David Deputy for most goals scored this postseason with eight.
Waterloo took a 14-7 shots-on-goal advantage and a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard into the locker room after the first 20 minutes of play.
Grady Deering made it a two-goal advantage on another power-play goal for the Black Hawks at the 11:28 mark of the second period. Hawkins picked up his second point of the night with a primary assist on the play.
Shots were 27-14 in favor of Waterloo going into the third period.
With the Lincoln net empty, Deering hit the empty net to punch Waterloo’s ticket to the Clark Cup Finals.
Carter Casey stopped all 27 shots and recorded his second consecutive postseason shutout for Waterloo.
Yan Shostak made 31 saves for Lincoln.
