The United States Hockey League (USHL) and Waterloo Black Hawks announced that Bryn Chyzyk has been named General Manager of the Year for the 2022-23 season.

The USHL General Manager of the Year Award is voted on by each member club’s General Manager.

In 2022-23 Chyzyk helped build a roster that claimed a 40-20-1-0 record with the 40 wins tying for the most in the USHL this season.  The Black Hawks, who enjoyed a 12-win improvement from the 2021-22 season, finished second in the Western Conference this year in earning a bye in the first round of the 2023 USHL Clark Cup Playoffs. With their 22 home victories ranking second in the USHL, Waterloo tied for third in the USHL in goals per game with a 3.71 mark and was third in goals against average with a 2.92 mark.

A pair of Black Hawks earned All-USHL honors this year in defenseman Aaron Pionk (Second Team) and forward Garrett Schifsky (Third Team).

Seven players who have skated in at least one Waterloo Black Hawks game this year earned a place in the NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings ahead of June's NHL Draft.   Besides defenseman Aaron Pionk, who was rated #117, other skaters on the Black Hawk roster making the list were Jackson Nevers (143rd), Gavyn Thoreson (150th), Teddy Townsend (167th), David Klee (188th), Ben Robertson (193rd), and Gennadi Chaly (224th).

Chyzyk, a former Fargo Force forward (2011-12) who played four years of college hockey at the University of North Dakota prior to a short pro career, becomes the second GM from Waterloo to win the award, joining P.K. O’Handley, who won the award on three occasions.
