2024 Muskegon Lumberjacks NHL Draft Preview

The United States Hockey League takes a team-by-team look ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks, who have had at least one player selected in each of the previous 12 NHL Drafts with 36 total in that span, have had 43 players selected in the NHL Draft.  

The Lumberjacks had three players chosen in the 2023 draft in Gavin McCarthy (#86, Buffalo), Sutter Muzzatti (#143, Nashville) and Emil Jarventie (#217, Pittsburgh). 

Forward Andrei Svechnikov, who played for Muskegon in 2026-17 and was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes with the second overall pick of the 2018 NHL Draft, is the highest-ranking Lumberjack draft pick.

Sacha Boisvert, Forward

College Commitment: North Dakota

Named 2023-34 All-USHL Third Team, Boisvert had 36 goals and 32 assists for 68 points in 61 games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in 2023-24. The University of North Dakota commit was an alternate captain for the Lumberjacks in 2023-24, ranked fifth in the USHL in goals and 11th in points and his 14 power play goals tied for third.

Matvei Gridin, Forward

College Commitment: Michigan

Named 2023-24 All-USHL First Team, Gridin finished the 2023-24 regular season with a USHL-best 83 points after scoring 38 goals and assisting on 45 others in 60 games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Committed to the University of Michigan, Gridin ranked fourth in the league in goals and tied for fourth in assists. His 29 power play points ranked second in the League and his 208 shots on goal was fourth.

Xavier Veilleux, Defense

Named 2023-24 USHL All-Rookie First Team, Veilleux had 32 points on three goals and 29 assists to lead all USHL rookie defensemen in scoring on the season. Committed to Harvard, the Muskegon blueliner had 29 assists, which led all rookie defensemen and ranked third amongst all rookies in the league this year. Veilleux, a L’Ancienne-Lorette, QC, native, led all league rookies with a +21 rating.

The USHL has had 50-or-more players selected in each of the last six NHL Drafts, with a league-best 57 chosen in 2022 and 2018. In all the USHL has seen 1,041 of its players selected in total, with at least one player taken in each draft but one dating back to 1981.
