2024 Green Bay Gamblers NHL Draft Preview

The United States Hockey League takes a team-by-team look ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft.

The Green Bay Gamblers tied with Youngstown and Chicago in 2023 for the second-most selections in the NHL Draft ncluding; Adam Gajan (35th overall - Chicago Blackhawks), Danny Nelson (49th overall - New York Islanders), Jayson Shaugabay (115th overall - the Tampa Bay Lightning), Rasmus Larsson (152nd overall - New York Rangers), Jimmy Clark (213th – Minnesota Wild), and Nick Vantassell (215th – Ottawa Senators).

The Gamblers have had a total of 55 players selected in the NHL Draft since their inception in 1994 with three players selected in the first round:  Casey Mittelstadt (#8, Buffalo, 2017), Nick Schmaltz (#20, Chicago, 2014) and Jordan Schmaltz (#25, St. Louis, 2012).

Artyom Levshunov | Defenseman

College: Michigan State University

Levshunov, a native of Zhlobin, Belarus, played for the Gamblers during the 2022-23 season. As a 16-year-old he led all Gamblers defenseman in scoring with 13 goals and 29 assists for 42 points in 62 games. The 6-foot-2, 208-pound defenseman earned a spot on the USHL-All Rookie Team and the All-USHL Third Team. Levshunov played for the Michigan State Spartans during the 2023-24 season and as a freshman scored 9 goals and 26 assists for 35 points in 40 games while skating on MSU’s top defensive pair. His outstanding play racked up a slew of honors including Second Team AHCA All-American, B1G Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, First Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Freshman team honoree. He also earned a spot on the NCAA All-Midwest Region Team, was a Top Ten finalist for Tim Taylor National Rookie of the Year honors and was a Hobey Baker nominee.

Caeden Herrington| Defenseman

College: University of Vermont

Herrington, a Manchester, Vt., native, played his senior prep season Holderness School in New Hampshire before joining the Gamblers in March. While at Holderness he tallied 7 goals and 42 assists for 49 points for a 1.69PPG average in 29 games played. Herrington played 16 regular season games for the Gamblers adding a goal and three assists and played in all eight of Green Bay’s playoff games. . The 6’1, 180 lb. defenseman is committed to play college hockey at the University of Vermont.

The USHL has had 50-or-more players selected in each of the last six NHL Drafts, with a league-best 57 chosen in 2022 and 2018. In all the USHL has seen 1,041 of its players selected in total, including four first-overall picks, with at least one player taken in each draft but one dating back to 1981.
