The United States Hockey League takes a team-by-team look ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft.
The
Cedar Rapids RoughRiders have had at least one player selected in 10 of the last 11 NHL Drafts. Dating back to its inaugural season in the USHL in 1999-00, Cedar Rapids has had 38 players selected in the NHL Draft. The RoughRiders’ highest selection of all-time was defenseman
Ivan Provorov who the Philadelphia Flyers selected with the seventh overall pick in the 2015 Draft.

A member of the 2023-24 USHL All-Rookie Second Team, Groenewold registered five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 57 games with the RoughRiders in 2023-24. He ranked second amongst RoughRiders defensemen with 80 shots on goal. The Bellows Falls, Vt., native won a Bronze Medal as a member of Team USA at this year’s World Junior A Challenge where he posted 0-1--1 in six games played.
Landan Resendes, Forward

The Marlborough, Mass., native had 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in 59 games with Cedar Rapids in 2023-24.
The RoughRiders had three players selected in 2023:
Eric Pohlkamp (#132, San Jose),
Ryan Walsh (#188, Boston) and
Zaccharya Wisdom (#212, Seattle).
The USHL has had 50-or-more players selected in each of the last six NHL Drafts, with a league-best 57 chosen in 2022 and 2018. In all the USHL has seen 1,041 of its players selected in total, with at least one player taken in each draft but one dating back to 1981.
