Team Blue defeated Team White 3-2 in a tightly contested, highly-skilled Chipotle All-American Game on Thursday in Plymouth, Mich.
Ryker Lee was named Player of the Game, scoring the game-winner at 4:54 of the third period.
Adam Benák (Youngstown Phantoms) opened the scoring, driving wide on
Patrick Quinlan (NTDP) and sending a pass through the crease for
Ben Kevan (Des Moines Buccaneers). Benák’s teammate finished the play to put Team Blue ahead 1-0. Only four minutes later, Quinlan denied Kevan’s point-blank chance to extend the lead.
Team Blue found the net again later in the period on the man advantage. Only 14 seconds into its first power play of the game,
Will Moore (NTDP) redirected a point shot from
Sam Laurila (Fargo Force) to make it 2-0.
Team White responded from its scoreless opening period with a pair of goals in 53 seconds.
Jackson Crowder (Sioux City Musketeers) found
Edison Engle (Dubuque Fighting Saints) with a low-to-high pass that Engle fired to the top corner at 3:37 of the period. Chicago Steel teammates
Teddy Mutryn and
Ashton Schultz then leveled the score with Mutryn one-timing a pass snapped from the top of the left circle to the bottom of the right.
Benák and Kevan nearly connected halfway through the third period with Benák threading a saucer pass through the defense, but
Joey Slavik made the stop. Lee eventually broke the tie with his wrist shot from the slot.
