Sioux Falls Stampede 3, Fargo Force 2 | VIDEO RECAP
(Sioux Falls wins series 3–2)
The Sioux Falls Stampede are headed to the Clark Cup Final to face the Muskegon Lumberjacks after a gritty 3–2 victory over the Fargo Force in Tuesday's winner-take-all Game 5. Behind a multi-goal performance from Logan Renkowski, the Stampede captured the Western Conference title in front of their home crowd.
Fargo drew first blood in the opening period. Axel Löfgren broke the ice on the power play at 12:20, rifling a shot from the point to give the Force a 1–0 lead.
The second period featured a back-and-forth battle as both teams traded blows. Renkowski tied the game 1–1 for Sioux Falls just 2:52 into the frame with a power-play tally in front. Fargo regained the lead at 11:49 with a power-play goal from Graham Jones, but Renkowski answered back with his second goal of the night at 18:58 to even the score at 2–2 heading into the final period.
Late in the third period, Joey Macrina played hero for the Stampede, scoring his first goal of the postseason on a quick wrister from the left-wing circle at 17:42 to give Sioux Falls its first lead of the night. Renkowski appeared to have put the finishing touches on the win with an empty-net goal to complete a hat trick; however, the goal was overturned after the play was ruled offside.
Linards Feldbergs earned the win in net for Sioux Falls, stopping 18 of 20 shots.
