Anthony Veltri has been promoted to Director of Hockey and Player Experience, the United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Tuesday.
In his new role, Veltri will own the day-to-day operation of the USHL’s player experience programs across all 16 teams. He will manage the player leadership council, track team standards and serve as the primary contact for teams on anything related to the player experience.
“Anthony earned this promotion through his incredible work ethic and innate ability to connect with hockey and business personnel across the USHL ” said President and Commissioner Glenn Hefferan. “His solutions-based approach has been invaluable to our growth and is a perfect fit for us as we expand our offerings to players and teams in our League.”
As part of his new initiative, Veltri will support the rollout of League-wide strength and conditioning and sports science initiatives. Additionally, he will build and administer surveys and assessments for hockey-related experiences with the purpose of ensuring alignment and continued progress in raising the Tier-I standard.
“I am excited to grow in my role with the USHL and look forward to managing our many new enhancements to the player experience,” said Veltri. “I am thankful for the opportunity to work with great people around the League and look forward to continuing to build those relationships as we help teams and players succeed on their path.”
Veltri joined the USHL as Business and Hockey Operations Manager in 2023 to execute a variety of cross-functional jobs. Among other duties, the Pittsburgh native has managed relationships with the League’s video review service, Spiideo, as well as academic providers, such as TPH. He has assisted with player safety and disciplinary reviews, and helps coordinate the execution of League events.
About the USHL
The United States Hockey League (USHL) and its 16 teams are committed to being the world's leading junior hockey league. This season, 45% of NCAA Division I men's hockey players and 25% of NHL players have USHL experience. The USHL has developed more than 315 direct NHL Draft picks since 2020, and nine of the last 10 Hobey Baker Award winners, including Macklin Celebrini (Chicago Steel).
Elevated through the recently announced Declaration of Excellence with the NHL and USA Hockey, the league's player-first approach, including a 2:1 practice-to-game ratio and a schedule with 90% of games played on weekends, provides its players with the optimal environment for athletic and personal growth, creating pathways for the next generation of stars like Jack Hughes (NTDP), Kyle Connor (Youngstown Phantoms), Jeremy Swayman (Sioux Falls Stampede), and Johnny Gaudreau (Dubuque Fighting Saints).
