The United States Hockey League (USHL) completed the 2023 NHL Draft with 51 players selected over the course of seven rounds the past two days.
The 2023 NHL Draft was held in Bridgestone Arena, home to the Nashville Predators.
The 51 players selected this year extends the USHL to six-straight Drafts with 50-or-more players selected and including current players and players who had previously played in the USHL, a total of 32 forwards, 13 defensemen and six goaltenders were selected.
"The 2023 Upper Deck NHL Draft was another great example of the development and high talent level the USHL has to offer,' said USHL President and Commissioner Bill Robertson. "Congratulations to all our young men who were taken in this year's Draft in Nashville. We look forward to seeing many of them continue their careers playing professionally in the National Hockey League."
The USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) had 16 selections (including program alumni) in Nashville. Youngstown had six, Chicago, Green Bay and Sioux Falls all had four players selected, while Cedar Rapids, Muskegon and Fargo had three. Lincoln, Omaha and Waterloo had two each and Madison and Sioux City had one.
The NTDP now has had 317 total NHL Draft picks while they've been a part of the USHL. Omaha has had 81 NHL Draft picks, Sioux City 64, Lincoln has had 63, Sioux Falls 58, Waterloo and Green Bay 55, Chicago 52, Muskegon 43, Cedar Rapids 38, Fargo 32, Youngstown 31 and Madison 15.
A total of 23 of the NHL's 32 franchises picked at least one USHL player and 14 made multiple picks from the USHL. The San Jose Sharks picked five players from the USHL, Colorado and Detroit had four, seven teams (Arizona, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Montreal and the New York Rangers) had three, Buffalo, Carolina, Tampa and Philadelphia chose two USHL players, while Dallas, Florida, Nashville, New Jersey, the New York Islanders, Ottawa, Seattle, Vancouver and Washington each had one selection.
After having six players selected in Wednesday's first round, nine players were selected in the second round Thursday, nine in the third round, six in the fourth round, eight in the fifth, six in the sixth round and seven in the seventh round.
Dating back to 1981 when Austin Maverick defenseman Rick Zombo was selected by Detroit in the eighth round, 149th overall, the USHL has had 1,041 players selected in the NHL Draft.
