USA Hockey has announced its roster for the 2023 World Junior Summer Showcase which is scheduled for July 27 – Aug. 4 in Plymouth, Mich.
The Showcase serves to identify players who will make up Team USA which will compete at the IIHF World Junior Championships scheduled for Dec. 26, 2023, through Jan. 5, 2024, in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Other teams participating at the World Junior Hockey Summer Showcase include Finland and Sweden.
In addition to 13 invitees from the USA Hockey National Team Development Program who saw action in the USHL in 2022-23, nine players who suited up for club teams in the United States Hockey League during the course of this season were named to participate at this summer's camp –
Garrett Brown (Waterloo),
Quinn Finley (Chicago),
Jacob Fowler (Youngstown),
Cole Knuble (Fargo),
Jake Livanavage (Chicago), Tanner Ludtke (Lincoln), Eric Pohlkamp (Cedar Rapids), Sam Rinzel (Waterloo) and William Whitelaw (Youngstown). An additional 19 players who played in the USHL previously will also attend the camp giving the league a total of 41 players.
David Carle, the head coach at the University of Denver and a former assistant coach with the USHL's Green Bay Gamblers, is serving as head coach of Team USA. Other members of the staff include assistant coaches
Brett Larson, who spent two seasons as the head coach and general manager of the Sioux City Musketeers (2011-13) and
Steve Miller, who spent the 1984-85 season playing for the Madison Capitols before beginning a lengthy assistant coaching career in the college ranks and goalie coach
