Glenn Hefferan Named USHL President and Commissioner

The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Thursday that Glenn Hefferan has beenselected as its 11th President and Commissioner.
Hefferan was approved Thursday afternoon by the USHL Board of Directors to take over the role on July 1.
“On behalf of our Board of Directors and member clubs, we are excited to welcome Glenn Hefferan as our next President and Commissioner,” said Dan Lehv, Vice President/Chairman of the USHL. “Glenn distinguished himself from a field of accomplished candidates. He has dedicated much of his life, both professionally and as a volunteer, to the growth and enhancement of hockey in the United States. Glenn will work tirelessly to deliver on our commitment to being the leading amateur developmental league in the world.”
Hefferan will succeed Bill Robertson, who has served in the USHL President and Commissioner role the past two years. Robertson informed the league during the 2022-2023 season that he would not seek renewal of his employment contract in order to pursue sports and entertainment consulting opportunities.
“The USHL is more than just a league. It represents the future of professional and collegiate hockey in America. I am honored and humbled to be selected to lead the USHL in fulfilling its vision for its players, coaches, officials, and fans.” said Hefferan. “As the newly-appointed President and Commissioner of the USHL, I am committed to fostering a culture of excellence on and off the ice.  Together, with our dedicated team owners and League partners, we will elevate the league to new heights and inspire the next generation of NHL and college hockey champions.”
Hefferan brings an extensive background as a volunteer, board and committee member with USA Hockey as well as running/directing youth and junior hockey clubs and leagues. He currently serves as President of the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association, the USA Hockey Affiliate for New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware, having been re-elected three times since his initial election in 2015.
Hefferan was elected to the USA Hockey Executive Committee in June of 2021 and currently serves on the Finance and Investment Committee, Governance Committee and Strategic Planning Committee.
“Glenn’s experience, passion and innovative spirit will serve the USHL well,” said Pat Kelleher, Executive Director of USA Hockey. “He is well-versed in the overall landscape of our sport, including at the grassroots level, and always has the best interests of the game in mind. We thank Bill Robertson for his contributions and wish Glenn the very best moving forward in leading our top junior league.”
The owner and operator of High-Performance Group, LLC which was created in 2012 as a branding, image, business development and sales services organization with a core focus on ice arenas, amateur hockey Leagues, and clubs, Hefferan’s involvement in amateur hockey dates back to his youth hockey-playing days in Jersey City, N.J.
Hefferan began officiating and coaching hockey as a teenager before forming a college development junior team in his early ‘20s. Named President of the Atlantic Metropolitan Hockey League (AMHL) in 1993, a position he held until 2012, Hefferan has held several volunteer and elected positions in the junior hockey ranks and with USA Hockey including being named Chairman of Junior National Championships in 1994, serving as Director At-Large, a position he held from 1997 through 2006 and then was named District Director in 2015. He has served on the USA Hockey Governance and Strategic Planning Committees, the Marketing and Junior Councils, Super Site Committee and Super League Task Force, along with Developing programs for membership growth and new marketing inventory.
In 2012 Hefferan was named by the New Jersey Devils as the recipient of the Dr. John J. McMullen Award for service to New Jersey Amateur Hockey.
