Green Bay Gamblers Draft Preview
The United States Hockey League takes a team-by-team look ahead of the 2023 NHL Draft.
The Green Bay Gamblers have had 54 players selected in the NHL Draft throughout their 28 years in the United States Hockey League.
Last year the Gamblers saw a pair of players get their names called,
Cameron Lund (San Jose Sharks – 34
th overall) and
Ryan Greene (Chicago Blackhawks – 57
th overall). This season Green Bay has assembled another impressive draft class including

Jayson Shaugabay | Forward

The Warroad, Minn., native played 27 games for the Gamblers this season, tallying three goals and 13 assists for 16 points. Shaugabay spent the middle portion of the season playing high school hockey in Warroad where he had a record-setting season with 33 goals and 63 assists for 96 points in 31 games. His assist total was the highest amongst all Minnesota High School Hockey players and he was named the state of Minnesota Mr. Hockey Award recipient. Shaugabay led the Warriors to the Class A State Championship game and over the course of the season, he became the sixth player in Minnesota high school hockey history to surpass 300 career points.

DeAngelo played 52 games for the Gamblers in 2022-23 and racked up a career-high 11 goals and 24 assists for 35 points. The Itasca, Ill., native was set to play in the BioSteel All-American Game in January but had to sit out due to injury.
The USHL has had 50-or-more players selected in each of the last five NHL Drafts, with a league-best 57 chosen in 2022 and 2018. In all the USHL has seen 990 of its players selected in total, with at least one player taken in each draft but one dating back to 1981.
