Chicago, Ill. --- NHL Central Scouting (NHLCS) announced Tuesday the service’s annual Final Rankings, which included 71 players who have played in the USHL to date.
Among the USHL ties, seven skaters are ranked in the top 30 in North America, including current USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) forwards
Ryan Leonard (#5),
Oliver Moore (#8),
Danny Nelson (#22),
Gabriel Perreault (#10) and
William Smith (#3). Also appearing in the top 30 are former league forwards
Adam Fantilli (#2) (Chicago Steel, 2020-22) and
Charlie Stramel (#30) (NTDP, 2020-22).
“The United States Hockey League is again well represented in the 2023 NHL Central Scouting 2023 Final Rankings,” said USHL President and Commissioner
Bill Robertson. “Our great league continues to showcase the best hockey talent in North America and is validated with the 71 USHL players in the rankings. As always this is a credit to the tremendous resources, time, energy, and development that our USHL Owners, General Managers, Coaching and Support staffs commit to making this all happen. We are excited about the upcoming NHL Draft in Nashville with the amount of USHL players that will be drafted to follow their dreams of competing in the NHL.”
The USHL has 61 active players listed in the final rankings.
The USHL is coming off the 2022 NHL Draft, which saw the League tie its own record with 57 selections. The USHL has now had 50-or-more NHL Draft picks in each of the last five Drafts and now has 990 NHL Draft picks all-time including four first overall picks:
Owen Power (Buffalo Sabres - 2021),
Jack Hughes (New Jersey Devils - 2019),
Auston Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs - 2016) and
Rick DiPietro (New York Islanders - 2000).
