The United States Hockey League announced the CCM and Reebok player awards for the 20th week of the 2012-13 USHL regular season.

Award winners include Jake Guentzel of the Sioux City Musketeers who has been named CCM Forward of the Week; Michael Kapla from the Sioux City Musketeers, selected as CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Arthur Brey of the Dubuque Fighting Saints who earned honors as Reebok Goaltender of the Week.

Jake Guentzel, F, Sioux City Musketeers: The 18-year-old Woodbury, MN native had a stellar weekend recording a goal and five assists in a pair of games. On Friday, Guentzel turned out a five-assist performance to help the Musketeers to a 10-3 win over the Fargo Force.  The five assists in one game equaled a USHL season high.  Guentzel then netted a first-period goal in Sioux City’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Des Moines Buccaneers on Saturday. The University of Nebraska-Omaha commit is currently on a three-game point streak and has points in six of his last seven games. He leads the team in goals (13), assists (24), and points (37).  He also leads the way with 13 power play points (4g, 9a).

Michael Kapla, D, Sioux City Musketeers: The defenseman tallied a goal and three assists in two games.  He assisted on a pair of power play goals in Sioux City’s 10-3 win over Fargo on Friday.  Saturday night, the UMass-Lowell commit assisted on his team’s first goal of the game and netted the game-tying goal early in the third period to force overtime against the Des Moines Buccaneers. The 18-year-old from Eau Claire, WI has 13 points on the season (4g, 9a) and is currently riding a five-game point streak, registering two goals, five assists, and helping his team post a 3-1-1 record over that span.

Arthur Brey, G, Dubuque Fighting Saints: The Yorba Linda, CA native was outstanding in his first weekend back after missing more than a month of games due to injury.  He compiled a 2-0-0 record with a 0.48 goals against average and .975 save percentage.  Friday night, Brey turned aside 18 shots and made two huge saves in the shootout to lead Dubuque to a 2-1 shootout win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.  He blocked all 18 shots he faced on Saturday to take down the Waterloo Black Hawks, 3-0, and earn his second shutout of the season.  Brey, who turns 19 this week, leads all USHL goaltenders with a 1.96 GAA and sits tied for fourth in both wins (18) and save percentage (.912).
