The Youngstown Phantoms announced that forward Alexander Dahl has committed to play collegiate hockey beginning next season at St. Lawrence University.

Dahl, who just celebrated his 20th birthday yesterday, has produced 19 points (9g, 10a) while appearing in all 46 games for the Phantoms this season.  The second-year forward is also serving as a team captain this season.  The Eau Claire, Wisconsin native played in all but one of the 60 regular season games for Youngstown last season and recorded nine points (3g, 6a) as a USHL rookie.  He also added two assists in six playoff games.

“I couldn’t be any more proud of, or happier for Alex,” Phantoms head coach Anthony Noreen said. “He’s everything we want the Youngstown Phantoms organization to be about.  St. Lawrence is getting a great player but an even better person.”

Dahl is the second member of his family to suit up for the Phantoms as his brother, Jefferson Dahl, played in Youngstown during the 2009-10 season.  Alexander was the Phantoms’ first pick (18th overall) in the 2011 USHL Entry Draft.

“The area in upstate New York reminds me a lot of Northern Wisconsin and I had a really good feeling about the coaching staff,” Dahl said.  “I was really excited once I found out that they wanted me.”

Dahl will be joined at St. Lawrence University by Phantoms teammate Eric Sweetman who is also committed to the school.  Six other USHL players are committed to St. Lawrence; Michael Rotolo (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Drew Smolcynski (Chicago Steel), Michael Marnell (Des Moines Buccaneers), Gavin Bayreuther (Fargo Force), Nolan Gluchowski (Tri-City Storm), and Brian Ward (Tri-City Storm).

St. Lawrence University is located in Canton, New York and has six USHL alumni on the roster this season; George Hughes (Waterloo Black Hawks), Kyle Flanagan (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Chris Martin (Indiana Ice), Gunnar Hughes (Waterloo Black Hawks), Justin Bruckel (Lincoln/Cedar Rapids), and Patrick Raley (Chicago Steel).
