The Tri-City Storm announced that defenseman Nolan Gluchowski has committed to play collegiate hockey at St. Lawrence University following his USHL career.
“The campus is beautiful and the arena is awesome,” said Gluchowski. “It’s a nice old barn, and the student and city support they get is awesome. They’re just all for hockey and that’s what I loved.”
The defenseman from Wixom, Michigan has appeared in 33 games this season, leading all Storm blueliners with 12 points (6g, 6a) and is tops on the entire team with a plus-eight rating. Gluchowski, who recently turned 19, is playing his first full USHL season after appearing in six games with the Storm last season.
Gluchowski will join fellow Storm teammate Brian Ward at school in the fall of 2014, after spending another season playing for Tri-City.
“No matter what I was going to come back,” Gluchowski said. “I feel like another year of the USHL will get me more ready to play college hockey and I can step in and be a difference maker right away.”
When Gluchowski looks at his conference schedule after stepping on campus, he’ll see a lot of familiar faces on opposing rosters. The Storm currently have six other skaters who are committed to play in the same conference as the Saints, the ECAC (Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference).
“I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Gluchowski said. “It’ll bring back a lot of memories of playing here. Some of my best buddies will be playing in the ECAC so it’ll be a good chance to get to see them often.”
St. Lawrence University is located in Canton, New York and has six USHL alumni on the roster this season; George Hughes (Waterloo Black Hawks), Kyle Flanagan (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Chris Martin (Indiana Ice), Gunnar Hughes (Waterloo Black Hawks), Justin Bruckel (Lincoln/Cedar Rapids), and Patrick Raley (Chicago Steel).
